    Hi there

    I'm an accountant. The value of your shares at 30 June doesn't matter unless its a self managed superannuation fund.

    With personal work you need to sell your shares on or before 30 June which will generate a loss or gain (a loss in your case), then rebuy the shares. You will have the same shares at a lower cost base and be able to claim the loss you incurred selling the original parcel of shares.

    However you did not do this, thus no loss can be claimed, basically the current loss on your stock means nothing unless you press SELL! - where you can claim a loss to offset any other future gains on other shares.
