in a perfectly fair system(or even pretaty fair) with equal opportunity for everyone, then no, wealth distribution wouldn't make sense. In that kind of world, I would agree with you that it wouldn't be right to take from high earners and give it to "dole bludgers". However, the reality is that we have an inequitable system in this country with many blatant inequalities already mentioned. So, under that scenario, wealth distribution is justified and needed. The best solution though would be to reform the inequalities.
