    suggest you research on the web, not HC. It depends if you classify yourself as a 'trader' or 'investor' (and obviously that your opinion passes muster if audited by ATO).

    The great majority of people who buy shares (eg 98%+) are investors. Get the CGT discount, cannot offset losses from the stockmarket against other income.

    The remainder are traders. No discounting, but full offseting of losses.
