WOW - I didn't realize that such a simple question would prompt such a flurry of relies. Thanks to everyone who contributed your advice is much appreciated. I have to admit that there were so many good arguments that I was still confused so I rang the ATO and they told me that they consider the trade transaction date as the only one that matters. So every trade up to and including Friday is considered this financial year.

My accontant who happens to be my father-in-law is adement that it is the settlement date if you use a cash basis and trade date if you use an accrual basis as most businesses would.

At the end of the day I think I will just hang on and eait until Monday as it isn't a great week to sell anything anyway. Let's hope next week brings us more joy and prosperity.
