I am inclined to agree about personal income tax. Perhaps it should be abolished and GST applied to everything as originally intended along with an immediate 10% increase in pensions and benefits so the lowest income earners are not disadvantaged. Middle income earners would be OK because of no personal tax. Only high income earners would lose because they mostly pay little personal tax due to minimization schemes such as negative gearing, low tax on capital gains being increased etc and would find themselves out of pocket for basic expenses like food.
