    "How anyone can argue against the resources tax is beyond me"

    The idea of cherry-picking businesses and imposing "super" taxes on the most profitable is the concept that's beyond me! If this tax gets temporarily implemented [that is until the next election when it will be revoked], we will have the absurd situation where miners will be taxed at different rates depending on what minerals they're mining! This is Alice in Wonderland stuff. What's next - the banks?

    The bottom line is that this government have spent like drunken sailors since the day they were elected and are now looking around for additional sources.

    Instead of Swan finger-wagging at BHP's "obscene" profits and pledging to get his hand in the till, he should start cutting back the profligate waste that continues on a daily basis. A sensible Treasurer would be taking the line that BHP and RIO are enormously profitable Australian enterprises and encourage Australians to invest in them - not put their hands out!
