    Paying their fair share ? You mean all those early adopters that pay for these expensive cars and effectively subsidize the development of those cars for the rest of us ?

    You seem to forget that airbags, stability control, abs brakes etc were only found in $200k + cars not that long ago. It was because people bought those cars and created economies of scale that we all have them as standard equipment now.

    Same same with evs. In a few years you will be able to buy an affordable ev thanks to those people that bought expensive evs.

    Nothing like half the story, is it ?

    Governments around the world, including Australia, have been looking at the fuel tax revenue issue because it has been falling for years due to fuel efficiency of ICE vehicles.

    For sure there will be a tax on evs eventually. probably on distance travelled basis.

    What that means is that it will encourage renewable energy even more. Home based systems that will provide cheap power and offset the road tax.
