"Ten Test Positive For TB

After three days of testing, ten people in Lubbock have tested positive for tuberculosis or TB.

It's important to stress that while the tests have come back positive, the Department of State Health says that does not mean they have the disease. They must undergo a second round of testing.

In the past three days, the department has tested about 1,200 after a TB scare at University Medical Center. Those who tested negative will need to be tested a second time in about 8 to 10 weeks to make sure they are not carrying TB.

Dr. Peter Pendergrass says, "If they've been recently exposed to the TB bacteria, then their body may not have had time to react to it and have a reaction to the TB skin test."

A UMC employee was the source of exposure to possibly 2,800 people. All 2,800 received letters. Hospital officials say you do not need to be concerned, if you did not receive a letter.
