Mr Charlton said the company planned to invest tens of millions of dollars in new technology over the next 12 months, including a new app for users of the CityLink tollroad in Melbourne.
Transurban plans to release the free app in the next few weeks and will eventually introduce apps for its tollroads in other states.
It will announce the outcome of a research project into how drivers use roads in September, and may use insights from the study to develop new tolling systems using GPS.
