We live in a so called free market and those who think that teachers are overpaid , then the intelligent thing to do is to go to Uni or 4 years,
get a basic degree & a teaching diploma , hack it at the lower rates of pay, pay back your HECS, forego 4 years of wages and after 8 years you'll be on at least $90K /year Qld, less super, union, teacher reg fees.

If you are a plumber up here you'll knock over $120K P/A ( piece of piss bud)and pay less tax than a teacher because the ute is tax deductible, no costs to and from work GST refundable, claim phone and home office costs protective clothing and ( dont mention the cash jobs please....otherwise the ATO might cotton-on! In fact this year you can buy a brand new ute, say $44K and you get back $4 K GST and the ballance is 100% tax deductable come June!

Had a plumbing job last year:
    -$88 callout fee & $165/hour
    or
    -Cash: $80 + $140/hr

Do you think , like a good Aussie, I took the former?

The job took 3.5 hours and the materials were probably charged to the next GST job!

We don't hear of Doctors knocking teachers for being paid too high a salary and ,lets face it, to get into medical school nowadays you need to demonstrate that you are in the top 2% at leaving cert! So at east we can say that the brainy mob are not knocking teacher's pay scales!

Tradies knocked teachers wages in the past until a mix of neo-liberal training policies starved the country of apprenticeships and the mining boom then put the tin hat on it...eh?........quadrupling tradies' wages over 15 years and they are now small business people voting Liberal...howsdat!
