Totally obscene, indeed. You actually need to be sick and in possession of a doctor's certificate to get any sick leave. I've taught for many years and if anyone gets a protracted time off due to sickness, then it is very rare and would be very unlikely to be accessed without due cause. I recall leaving with a large number of unused days of sick leave (cumulative over the years) and this was the norm for the vast majority of my teacher peers. Oh, and they are certainly never paid out on retirement. So, is this your definition of "obscene"????
