"hidden side projects" -- they're called R&D. Professor Abeyratne is a research scientist. It's what we pay him and his team to do. And there will be many of them, most of which we will never hear about because they came to nothing. And the ones that do produce a potentially commercial result will only be announced once they reach a certain level of proof.
But I guess your concern is not that the research team is conducting research, but that the ongoing research might be diluting the company's focus on commercialising Smartcough, and might be draining funds out of the company which might leave a shortfall for getting Smartcough producing revenue.
I don't have a ready answer to that one. Brian and Tony have already fielded questions about the expected cost of the prospective trial. Teleconference is on Monday morning. That would be a great chance to raise this issue.
