Its not necessarily what a VQ procedure (type of scan that uses technegas) does better than CT.
CTPA (CT looking at blood flow in the lungs) is still the gold standard for assessing pulmonary embolism however it cannot be performed on pregnant patients, patients with kidney problems or people allergic to iodine. VQ also delivers a much lower dose to breast tissue (important if you're a young woman who has the rest of their life to develop cancer).

The USA can perform VQ scans but they use DTPA (very poor quality scan appearance) or Xenon gas (patient has to hold their breath while acquisition is happening).
Instead of asking how technegas competes with CT software you should be asking how it competes with alternative radiopharmaceuticals for a VQ scan.
DTPA hasn't seen widespread use in Australia for the last 10 years and Xenon even longer. The rest of the world understands that technegas is superior in just about every way. I was honestly shocked when I learned America doesn't use it. I've found they're quite antiquated when it comes to nuclear medicine procedures.

Additional note: VQ scans are great for assessing chronic pulmonary disease and for doing function tests before a partial lung removal. CT cannot assess function like a VQ can.
