Well, that poor individual hasn't lost any money unless they decided to sell their shares after falling below those dizzying heights. The real tragedy is that they will now have to wait for BRN to go back up to a point where they will not only need to cover capital gains tax from the sale but also pay the interest on the amount that they borrowed.
I think the lesson I would learn from this is: a) not to spend any more in the stock market than I am willing to lose; and b) never take out a loan for a risky investment, whether it be the stock market or blackjack tables.
