Regarding shorts, there are some "interesting" figures for the past 2 days (ie Tue/Wed). And in context, as at 8 Jun (latest ASIC report), LYC had over 21.6m outstanding shorts - that's not far short of $200m worth.
On Tue (14 Jun), the LYC ASX turnover was nearly 8.9m shares - so with probably around 10% more for ChiX, that's not too far short of 10m shares. ASX has reported 2.78m shorts on Tue - so that's over 25% of the days "sells".
Yesterday (15 Jun), the LYC turnover figures were very similar to Tue, total including ChiX again around the 10m mark. The reported shorts yesterday were an astounding 4.64m - if we can believe that figure, it represents over 45% of the day's "sells".
ASIC won't report on the nett change in total shorts for those days until next week. We'll then get a better idea whether the shorters were just making opportunistic money on those days by ensuring there were big trading ranges on very volatile market days (eg 9% trading range on Tue) - or were desperately trying to hold the share price from perhaps skyrocketing.
Today's trading is quite different - so far at least - with a very confined trading range & volume slightly down.
Rule of thumb - never try to guess or apply logic to what shorters are trying to achieve ... nor underestimate them!
