The transition to renewables is underway and there's no denying that. While that transition is happening with a greater sense of urgency, we are not there yet. The world and China have to meet demand for energy or else see more crippling blackouts and hits to the economy. There is talk about large companies in Germany and elsewhere in Europe having to idle production or furlough staff due to the energy crisis. Would be nice if renewables could meet the demand today but they cannot. So, until renewables become a much larger part of the energy mix, of course fossil fuel use will continue. The shift doesn't happen overnight. It's simplistic to think China is not focused on renewables just because it has to burn coal.
