Simple example you have 1.000 in savings it earns 5% so yu now have 1,050. However inflation was up `10%. Net change is you lost $ 50.00 of purchasing power.
Yes stocks go down during rapid up movements in inflation this is because inflation decreases gains in revenue and profits and that is what drives stock prices.
