Not at al clear yet. PHEV growth has been faster than EV growth in % terms. for about 6 months. EVs are facing Price and Grid problems and many people are seeing PHEVs as a great interim solution with option to pick fuel when needed. Toyota may be correct in staying with HEVS. For record the PHEV RAV4 has about 45 Miles on a charge witch lets many people run as a EV most of the time. A friend recently went over 6 months without buying gas. When he went out west he never charged to much hassle and expensive. Still averaged 48 MPG and that includes a 12 volt refrigerator being powered 24/7

For record I do believe 10 ~ 15 years from now EVs will be the only technology for sale. Just PHEVs sound like a great stepping stone to me. I think Toyota had great incite staying away from the crowd.

CA is having Grid problems because of charging during high travel times. What is surprising is NH has problems on weekends as well it is all the flat landers coming north with their EVs to relax Friday night is have many black / brown outs from people fast charging.
