I was doing some thinking about your charting approach. From an investing point of view, when looking at a sector, what we are really looking for is the exception ... the out-performer.
When I first started charting, I tried mapping stocks against the overall index in terms of their percentage change. So,... if say the market that day improved by 1% I was interested in the stocks which improved by +1%. I noticed that such stocks often 'outperformed' for several days in a row and also they tended to show themselves as the stronger stocks in general.
However, my maths skills are limited and I could not automate it. Perhaps though you are better placed to have a look at that approach. Your 'alternative coalers' chart would look quite different, I believe, if instead of mapping the SP you tried mapping the percentage change of each of the stocks instead. It might highlight the stronger investment cases.
Just a thought .....
