Obtaining sustainable management of acid sulfate soils is an issue of national and international importance. The environmental and economic impacts of ASS are particularly potent on the coastal habitats of eastern
Australia, negatively affecting fish and marine organisms, habitat degradation of waterways, human and animal health, plant productivity, corrosion and clogging of physical in-ground structures. This major fifth international conference, to take place in Tweed Heads on the NSW and Queensland border, is under the auspices of the International Union of Soil Science. With its close proximity to the national parks and visitors Mecca's of both Queensland and New South Wales, Tweed Heads offers the ideal base for pre-or post-conference touring.

The conference program, including field trips, will be beneficial to:
