@Bostar; to fix what are perceived to be problems you need to address the root causes of those problems.
My thirty-five years working in public schools throughout regional Victoria prior to gross over-resourcing of taxpayer funded 'elitist private schools' exposed me to ebbs and flows in youth alienation and the factors linked to such.
Atop the list today is education apartheid - we've segregated our kids into 'haves' and 'have nots' / 'specials' vs battlers. The youth alienation this is causing is 100% the fault of our politicians and has already gone so far it's not going to be unwound anytime soon.
Next up is the plight of single parents - many of whom are young women who have to work and who struggle to know what their teenagers are doing while they're still at work. The lack of support for single parents and their kids is primarily the fault of politicians.
There was a time when almost all Australian students attended public schools; wherein issues including social interaction, healthy competition, tolerance, respect and cooperation were universal outcomes. Now spoilt brats are told they're special at taxpayer-funded elitist 'private schools which even go into bat for their appallingly bad behaviour when it's exposed in the media - rating young girls by 'rapability' for example.
The solution does NOT lie in our criminal justice system - it's absolutely hopeless and totally ineffectual. It lies in honouring Australia's core values including a fair go and equal opportunity for all rather than exacerbating education apartheid.
