OK, but it';s only going to work when there are ready "markets" and buyers. I say "markets" loosely because I'm sure each soldier expected to receive the same price. It's not a case where the first soldier arriving with his salt "haggles" at the market and gets so many Denarius and then every subsequent soldier gets less on a diminishing scale and the last misses out, that's not going to work.
