The payment of soldiers in salt wasn’t universal and all encompassing, tig,
Payment in salt was an option when they didn’t have enough coin at times.
Salt was and still is a commodity and has worth, just like rum.
I’m sure that the soldiers would of preferred the coin as it is easier to carry.
