These are not huntern gatherers in the natural state. These are colonials, I believe, with strict laws of private property. These colonials were familiar with the use of money, so it should not be any surprise that they used another commodity when there was a shortage of money, during the great depression. No surprises there, that's a bit silly. I think even during the so called Dark Ages in Europe, contracts were made in the old Roman currency, although no coinage existed.
