Earnings under a long white cloud
Earnings will be under severe pressure from FY08 as regulatory changes lead to greater competition and reduced prices. Little good news is on the horizon as growth wanes in Mobile and IT services while fixed wire revenues deteriorate. Adjusted FY06 NPAT slipped 4.3% to NZ$820m on sluggish 1.9% sales growth to NZ$5.76bn. A major setback is the cut in the payout ratio from 85% of NPAT to 75%. The yield has been one of TEL's key attractions. The Q4 dividend was cut to NZ7c from NZ9.5c. Dividends are fully imputed for NZ shareholders. Foreigners receive a supplementary NZ1.24c. A special NZ5c was also paid. Specials for the year total NZ10c.
