Independent IT and telco analyst Paul Budde thinks the 3G (mobile) technology in which Telecom NZ and its Australian partner, Hutchison, is investing is "dead".
The Australian-based Budde says broadband will be the next cash cow for the telecommunications industry, and telcos that focus too much on mobile or narrow band networks will suffer.
"I think 3G (mobile) is dead - I think we will never see the introduction of 3G. If anything happens it will be 4G towards the end of this decade," Budde said.
