"As nasty,terrible and frightening this Corona Virus is" – I suspect that it's going to turn out to be a lot less nasty, terrible or frightening than it looks at present. We're all looking at the official 2%-3% mortality rate and thinking 20x to 30x as deadly as the 'flu. But the fact is that the overwhelming majority of people have mild or no symptoms, and healthy people and children seem to be at little or no risk. That means that in places where the authorities and population are not being hypervigilant about the possibility of Covid19, many cases are simply not going to present to the medical authorities at all.

Therefore I think it's reasonable to infer that the 2%-3% official mortality rate is exaggerated – possibly by a great deal – and that once the virus becomes widespread the present sense of dread will dissipate.
