Australian homes plagued by telemarketing calls will soon have a new line of defence against the intrusion under a Federal Government scheme to create a "Do Not Call" register.

The register would allow consumers and small businesses to opt out of receiving marketing related phone calls from telemarketers operating in Australia, or overseas telemarketers representing Australian companies.
