    As mentioned before, the comparison to the pensioners was purely to highlight the absurdity in the claim that the government is responsible for what they purchase.



    I personally do not know what the situation is in the detention centres, nor what it is like to be there for a long period of time.

    I would not think 70 cents per day is an issue either way when taken in context of the overall cost of keeping them in detention.


    And for all we know the money is used to buy clothing, books, or something for their children.


    Yes, they may have jumped the queue.
    Yes, some may not be genuine refugees.
    Yes, they may be a burben on us tax payers.
    Yes, we may prefer if we did not have to deal with this issue.

    But regardless of the above, there is no reason we cannot keep our humanity and stop trying to demonise them.


    Process them and send them back or let them stay on the merits of each claim, but there is no need for us to promote hate and continue demonisation of them.



    As shown in some of the responses on this thread, the articles headline has done what it was intended to do, and that is to purposely mislead and promote hate.
