George Bush Jr. (1992 re-election bid) - lost because of a faltering economy. Jimmy Carter (1980 re-election bid) - lost because of stagflation. Herbert Hoover (1932 re-election bid) - lost because he started an international trade war in a recession and caused the Great Depression.
So to win Trump needs to play down his economic chaos and his record debt and deficit. Conceal his disastrous agriculture sector and struggling manufacturing, and suck up to the tech moguls - Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, Netflix, Disney etc. They're keeping markets buoyant. Get Elon Musk to launch more rockets. That goes well. Trump's voter base like colour and movement, and anything that burns a crapload of fossil fuel in a short time.
Then, with Fox News mainstream media concealing the true economic picture and the rest focused on PC issues and gotcha moments, Trump can simply campaign on race and security. That should do it.
