The rhetoric from Abbott and co is still no new taxes.
They are currently saying they will add GST on downloads for songs, movies and products brought online. Their argument seems to be that this is not a new tax. They are just applying the existing tax GST to products it already applies to. For example when you go into a shop and buy a CD you pay GST. Now when you buy it online you will also pay GST. So its not a new tax, they are simply applying the existing tax to online transactions.
Personally I think their will be nothing brave in the budget like messing with franking credits.
Instead they will tighten rules to make it harder for people to claim benefits and they will expand existing taxes.
Then they will produce another chart saying they are improving the budget bottom line
