IPO would not need government approval, also there is a really good chance Optus just made sure the government wont be doing any more favours for a while (ie: declaring TLS mobile network).

Defined benefit scheme should be well overfunded now and thus much better time to close it off and flog off Telstra Super, the biggest corporate super fund in Australia.
Or (not sure about the legalities) I would like to know if it would be possible to use some of the defined benefit money to buy back a shipload of TLS shares?
Make alot of financial sense as the yield is much higher than the bonds they carry.
Also a snippet from the half yearly:
"Our average borrowing costs on gross debt for the period was 5.4 per cent compared to 5.6 per cent in the prior period"
"We will continue to see the favourable impact of refinancing as debt with higher cost of funds matures"
Hmmmmmm who thinks it could be a good idea to borrow more money at 5.4% or about 3.8% post tax and buy a bucketload more shares?
