Agreed, although then you would have to use Vodafone for the 99% of the time you aren't O/S. Also remember that Telstra customer get access to the worldwide FON WiFi hotspot network too.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it is a great value either. But I do know that Telstra has the market share/power to affect the market here in Australia.
I really like what UNL are doing by value adding their offering to their partners, but it will put some price pressure on them.
UNL is 1GB for $69AUD (WiFi also available)
FRX is 1GB for $29USD (No WiFi available)
TLS is $10 day (100MB/day) plus unlimited calling & SMS. (Additional 1GB available for $25). + access to Telstra Air (FON WiFi internationally)
TLS has the advantage of keeping your own number, but fewer countries.
