I don’t believe that anyone (especially the Australian government) can predict what the required technology will be in five years time (let alone ten years) and I have seen no evidence to suggest that the copper network will be obsolete in five years.

The above aside, I think the real argument is do we want the Australian government dictating future technology or do we want private enterprise to innovate future technology (remembering that private enterprise is most innovative when it can make a profit)?
