Unfortunately the Climate Scientists have built a billion dollar academic industry around anthropogenic CO2 warming [come hell and high water] and if it busts (proven to be natural causes largely beyond human control) then they will not only be unemployed but likely unemployable.
More over, if AGW busts then the backlash from the public may not be limited to Climate Scientists, but foster a distrust in Environmental Scientists et.al. Then when another matter of serious concern to humanity is raised they will be dismissed as scaremongers looking to drum up government grants to study a boondoggle, leading to a boondoggle tax.
Re meteors (comets), I suggest many a Planetary Scientist (I'm not one) would bet that we will be hit by an extinction size meteorite before the Sun goes nova and fries the Earth in a few billion years.
