Yes, the Chinese population has been promised a dream. Acutually, it's been promisted 1 Billion+ dreams. They've been offered wealth. But not everyone can be wealthy. "Wealth" is a chimera - its a relative term...so someone is always is on the "unwealthy" side of the equation.
The Chinese populace is now be seeing the uber-wealthy oligarchs and politicians amongst them. It's going to start looking like pre-Communist fuedalism again. (If the Chinese Gov hasn't buried that part of the history.)
But then again, if you look across the global political landscape, (ex)-communists and capitalists alike are adopting policies which, in a poor light, can be seen as neo-Fuedalist.
How will the Chinese populace react to the new Oligarch/Lords? They've revolted before.
What will the Chinese government do to keep the peace? An external enemy does wonders for internal cohesion.
It's amazing how much we all know ex-post.
