    Read somewhere that the Japanese had been trying to surrender since April 1945(via neutral Sweden)and were ignored. They did want to keep the Emperor that was all. They ended up keeping the Emperor anyhow but only after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Seems the nukes were really about making a statement to the Soviets, freshly designated as the new enemy after being important ally.
