You are joking....I was just up in Japan for a couple weeks..(to be honest my favourite country on the planet for a great holiday...). There is no better place to enjoy yourself in complete peace - and awe of the culture and security (not to mention it is far cheaper than the travel propaganda suggests). While I was there I went to visit one of my son's who is on Okinawa doing some security work for the Asia region. That particular island was invaded towards the end of the war...US Army and US Marines mainly...I went to the War Memorial there. Over 14,000 dead Americans and a few allied soldiers. Over 200,000 dead Japanese/Okinawans. Many of those were civilians who were convinced by the Japanese military to kill themselves - lest they be raped and tortured by the advancing Americans...sadly wrong. You can see the cliffs they jumped from at the site. Can you imagine the casualties on both sides if they hadn't dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? I'd guess a million or more Western dead.....and ten million or more Japanese. The Japanese got off lightly with those two atomics.....and I have yet to read from a respectable source - that there was any offer of unconditional surrender from the Japanese..before those bombs were dropped.
