LETS HOPE THE WEATHER DOESN'T CAUSE TOO MANY DELAYS AT TC.

The Northern Territory is bracing for more monsoonal rain and possible flooding as a tropical low moves south.

The wet weather claimed its first casualty after a 29-year-old woman was killed driving in heavy rain in Darwin's rural area overnight.

Watch Commander Greg Pusterla says motorists need to slow down.

"Increase the distance between the car in front of you and put your headlights on if it looks a bit dark," he said.

In the 24 hours to 9am today, Nutwood Downs in the Roper-McArthur district recorded the most rain with 195 millimetres.

Forecaster Billy Lynch says the low could bring up to 300 millimetres of rain over the weekend when it hits the Alice Springs district tonight.

    "It's very significant," he said.

"Alice Springs, for example, averages around 270 millimetres for the whole year, so it's not very often that you see a monsoon low move as far south as it is.

"So that is extending a lot of tropical air southwards and that is why there is such good potential for heavy falls."

The rain is not expected to begin easing until Monday, meaning a big weekend of football in Darwin and Alice Springs will be a very wet experience for fans
