Wonarah deal will greenlight phospate mine
25 Feb, 2011 08:57 AM
AN agreement to be signed this morning will allow a phosphate mine at Wonarah to proceed.
The deal has been struck between Minemakers Australia, the Central Land Council and traditional owners of the area, the Arruwurra Aboriginal Corporation.
The mine, about 230 kilometres east of Tennant Creek, is the only Australian rock phosphate project granted Government Major Project Status.
It has a potential mine life of several decades and is expected to export around three million tonnes of rock phosphate each year.
Stakeholders will sign the agreement at the CLC office in Tennant at 11am today.
