imo none of this is suprising. There is fear in the corridors of power that the majority of this strategic resource is controlled by China. It is no accident that the Australian FIRB ensured that such high barriers were placed before China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) that they would naturally have to withdraw their attempt to gain control of Lynas in 2009. This bickering and infighting in the US will only get worse and meanwhile Lynas will have the market, outside of China, to themselves as they get into production. I would agree that attempts to manufacture without rare earths will be attempted, of course it will, but in the meantime there will be Lynas. Of course this is just my opinion.
