TerraE MOU bites the dust
![]()
"They had planned to install a battery facility not unlike the Tesla Gigafactory when they got together in May 2017. The idea was to scale up capacity until it would reach 34 GWh in 2028. Yet they did never began building a factory in the first place, because none of the firms wanted to make a considerable investment into cell production."
Original report in Der Tagesspiegel:
"Meanwhile, a consortium launched with big plans a year and a half ago failed. About 20 German machine and plant manufacturers, cell processors and chemical companies had come together a year and a half ago under the name Terra E to build a cell factory. With around four billion euros, a capacity of 34 gigawatt hours should be built by 2028, which would be sufficient for 650 000 electric cars. In the end, none of the participants wanted to take money in hand, Terra E dissolves now, and the companies involved hope once again on the policy."
Worth reflecting on the hype surrounding this particular Gigadream™ in Sept 2017 ann:
