re: terrible ann for helke 9,176 carats of facet quality uncut rubies.. these are high grade rubies.

5,062 carats of cabachon grade.. these are lower grade rubies....

The prices for rubies vary. These stones when inspected at a gem fair by 'experts' were said to exceptional quality. This was before any heat treatment to improve their quality, heat treatment does not affect the price of the stones. This is a list of rubie prices -

Ruby price per carat.

Commercial $80 to $750
Good $750 to $2,700
Fine $2,700 to $4,500
Extra Fine $4,500 to $10,500

Ruby price for 4 carat or larger stone.

Commercial $700 to $10,625
Good $10,625 to $33,750
Fine $33,750 to $72,500
Extra Fine $72,500 to $135,000

As you can see, these stones can be more expensive than diamonds and they are a lot rarer than diamonds.

Unless someone can comment as to why this announcement is bad, I would tend to have a somewhat different opinion.
