If you change that to "aggravated possession", it would be fairer.
Local well known and liked police sergeant retired and moved away. Was shocked to see his name in the paper charged with possession of unlicensed firearms. His licence had expired and he forgot to renew it. And an ex-colleague with a grudge was no doubt watching and waiting...... now that certainly wouldnt deserve LIFE.
