Whislt I cant really fault most of your rationale....

...it certainly seems the BIG DIFFERENCE between the modern influx vis-a-vis the old one is this..

...the old-timers were happy to get here, excited about making a new life and becoming a part of the society/culture/city that they came to and generally couldnt wait to get stuck in to it and make their mark.

On the whole they embraced/accepted/added to the way of life of the host country

It seems these new ones - on the the face of it - are divisive/anti-social/derogatory/exclusive/subversive etc to the seeming fabric of our way of life.

It seems the old ones sought to - on the whole - change to fit the country whilst the new ones want to change the country to fit them
