Nice try Tristan, but a study of subsidies to the energy sector (basically arguing the case for the yet to fail, but likely to, renewable sector) is more than missing my point, sorry.
As for planes, trains and automobiles, well, the commercially successful brands and technologies won out on their own merits. Subsidised ventures (like, say, as a small example, the Australian automotive industry) consumed a lot of taxpayer cash, and died an expensive death, unfortunately.
