Tesla has also been doing some posturing itself about the production of batteries from the gigafactory. For months I have been trying to fault tesla and lithium-ion batteries (more so from a scientific point of view) and have come up with nothing. I tried trawling through dozens of the latest academic papers on LI batteries - the weight (in research) is clearly with natural graphite. Im confident natural graphite is the product of choice, for now...
It also sounds like the commercial powerwall is about to get legs. Yay!
All these batteries need graphite from somewhere... Musks stated production targets for batteries from Tesla (alone) would double worldwide production.
If Syrah pulls any deal off with Tesla i agree, the term watershed is warranted.
