Dual motor Teslas use one PM motor and one IC motor. What are the Rare Earths 1, 2, 3 in a Model Y drive motor?
I would suggest 500g NdPr; 10g Dy; 10g Tb.
NdFeB magnetmakers do not bother to use separated NdPr because the magnetic properties of Nd and Pr are near-identical. I think it highly likely that the 500 g is actually NdPr (aka PrNd, equivalent and also common parlance); regardless, it is nothing more than a trivia question. Other may have different opinions here, but it is not worth an argument.
Second inference is that Elon's heat-protecting HREE inputs are 2% Dy and 2% Tb (the Tb is more expensive but also more effective at doing what Dy does). These numbers are in line with the 3% average content (HREEs as % of NdPr) of current Chinese EV motors, but Elon's EVs are much more powerful and therefore might be expected to have even more, so I think he has already done quite well at reduction.
Why combine the LREEs Nd/Pr in one number and present the HREEs as separate numbers? The NdPr are not separated for magnetmaking as noted above and so they are often presented/priced as a single product. PART 2: Dy and Tb are OFTEN separated because the Dy and Tb are quite different in their magnet performance (raising coercivity). The turbine industry can pay for the difficult separation because wind turbines are very costly up front but highly lucrative over time. The use of Pure Tb allows them to retain more Nd (good for more power aka $$$ per revolution). NOTE: The turbine industry does NOT use GBD (magnets too big) so any DyTb used will replace NdPr and weaken the magnet (but it will be a more heat-resistant magnet).
