Here's a really interesting video ( imv ) from old mate Bjorn Nyland. He is attempting to travel 1000km in 10 hours in his Model 3.

What I like about the video is what you can learn about using an ev for long trips. How to use superchargers correctly. How long you have to stop for etc. Also, it shows you the clever stuff about the car with regard to the locations of the superchargers etc.

It's a bit of a window into what owning an ev in Australia might be like in a few years. Obviously we need more charging stations etc. While this example isn't exactly the same as Australia, there is plenty to be gleaned from it.

E.g. Melbourne to Sydney ( 900+ kms ) . While we can't drive as fast as they do in Europe, you can see how it's probably otherwise similar to using an ice car provided supercharging stations are available. Superchargers are about 160- 180kms apart on the Hume Highway . So , stops every couple of hours for a coffee and a wee roughly lines up. If driving a Tesla you can probably stop at every second supercharger ( 3 or 4 hours ) .

Considering what we have now is only going to get better in terms of available superchargers and battery range, it appears that evs will do the job for the more popular long distance routes quite easily.
