It's interesting to remember also that Musk/Tesla recently appointed Jeff Dahn, the Univercity of Nova Scotia professor who is known for his silicon anode research/expertise - he also patented a nickel/cobalt/manganese chemistry to battery cathodes. Clearly the focus is to improve battery chemistry while also reducing costs.

It will be interesting to see how they go about it, and what the end result be.
